An active-duty U.S. Air Force major was arrested outside the Capitol building this week after publicly calling for the impeachment and removal of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Major Jason Watson, a decorated 17-year service member currently on leave from his post in Poland, delivered his remarks in uniform at a news conference organized by an activist group before making his way up the House steps holding a sign.

Why He Was Arrested

Capitol Police confirmed that demonstrating on the House steps is against the law unless the person is accompanied by a member of Congress. Watson had initially been escorted by Democratic Representative Al Green of Texas, but once Green stepped away, officers gave Watson a lawful order to stop or face arrest. When he declined to move, he was taken into custody on a charge of crowding, obstructing, and incommoding.

During his remarks, Watson laid out a detailed list of grievances against the administration, ranging from military strikes in Iran and Venezuela to immigration enforcement policy and the handling of federal agencies. He argued that Congress had the constitutional pathway to pursue impeachment and called on Americans to keep exercising their right to peacefully protest.

The Air Force has confirmed it is opening its own investigation, and officials note that a civilian arrest doesn't automatically end a military career — any further action would depend on the outcome of the case and whether service regulations were violated. Reports also indicate that DC prosecutors may decline to pursue charges further.
